“Should I update my home before listing it on the market?”
This is a question I get a lot. Five to 10 years ago, I would’ve said that you should definitely renovate, remodel, or update your home in some capacity. However, in this market, you don’t have to do that. Buyers are overlooking specific updates like carpet, paint, granite surfaces, and appliances that we once used to be necessary. Because of low inventory, they're more concerned about just getting a house.
It's still a good idea for you to do the basic repairs like plumbing and electrical, but in this market, houses tend to sell so long as they’re priced right. These days you should be more concerned with staging. When a home is staged well, you tend to get a higher price for your home due to buyers competing against one another.
